Please touch the stone with the mouse.

Breathing spaces
Please take a look at the diagram above.
There are four red marks . We call them breathing spaces for the black stone.

The horizontal and vertical interesections next to the stone are its breathing spaces
-- not the diagonal ones!

Breathing spaces on the sides and in the corner.
In the centre a stone has four breathing spaces, on the side three, and in the corner two.

Breathing spaces of multiple stones
When there are more than one stone, the number of breathing spaces increases.

If the breathing spaces are sealed up, a stone cannot live.
When all the breathing spaces are sealed up, a stone can no longer live on the board, so it is captured.

In other words, sealing up the breathing spaces of a stone is the same as surrounding and capturing it.

While defending your own stones, you attack the opponent's and try to capture them. If you are attacked in turn, you defend. The strategy of Go is to expand your own territory while repeating this process of attack and defence.

If I can't breathe, I'll die!
